Crest line appoints temporary police chief News Journal staff report CRES'rLINE -- -- Lt. Todd Rudd was appointed acting police chief in Crest-line Crest-line Crest-line by Mayor Pete Dzugan. Crestline Police Chief Edward "Butch" Wilhite, 36, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors in Crawford County County Common Pleas Court in December. He can not return to his position as chief for now, because of a probation stipulation that he can not carry a firearm. "The biggest thing is stability. We wanted stability in the department," Milliron said Thesday afternoon. Milliron said under Ohio law the mayor can appoint an acting chief for up to 120 days. "We felt we needed to put someone in the position. Lt. Rudd has 10 or 12 years service," he said. Wilhite pleaded guilty to one count of tampering with records, a first-degree first-degree first-degree first-degree misdemeanor, and dereliction of duty, a second-degree second-degree second-degree misdemeanor, in a plea agreement with the Crawford Crawford County Prosecutor's office. Wilhite admitted falsifying records for a defendant who is related to him while the defendant was sentenced to serve community service. Wilhite falsified falsified the number of hours served. He was to have started back to work Dec. 31. His attorneys filed a motion for him to return to his post, but the court has not ruled on it. Wilhite remains on unpaid administrative administrative leave until matters are settled in court.
