Sunday, July 23, 1 989 News Journal, Mansfield, O. Living here 17 Richland eight golf 1 IV Richland County has eight golf courses within its confines, six of which are open to the public. For the beginning player, or players who wish to play the shorter courses, excellent choices are executive layouts at Forest Hills in Madison Township and Little Apple in Bellville. Both Forest Hills and Little, Apple measure less than 4,000 yards in length and have 18 holes. The courses are open to the public.

Among the full-length public courses, players may choose from four layouts, two of which are in Mansfield. All courses are within 15 miles of Mansfield. Players can tackle the hilly beauty of Possum Run or the tight and testing Twin Lakes. Coolridge is a solid, nine-hole layout. Pebble Creek, probably the most difficult public course in the county, is tucked back in the farmlands south of Lexington.

Mansfield has one of the finest private courses in the state, the lush Westbrook Country Club. Another highly regarded private layout is Shelby Country Club.
