2 News Journal, Mansfield, 0. Tuesday, June 20, 1972 AMA Takes Up Ticklish Question of Doctors Unions SAN FRANCISCO (AP) The American Medical Association has before it for the first time measures asking whether a doctor should join a union that would bargain collectively about fees and working conditions and possibly strike to back its demands. The proposals seek only to create study commissions to determine the legal ramifications of physicians' unions. But their presence for consideration today or Wednesday by the AMA's governing House of Delegates reflects a new, militant movement among doctors that elates some physicians and frightens others. The AMA House's action on the measures, some physicians feel, could have an important effect on medical care and doctors' relationships with patients a few years from now.

S. Supreme Court has rejected the firm's appeal from an Ohio Supreme Court decision upholding the constitutionality of the 1969 law imposing the tax. The airline contended in its appeal that the tax, whose revenue was earmarked to local governments to supplement the Police and Firemen's Disability and Pension funds, would impose an immense burden on the carriers and could force then to increase fares. The airlines also charged the tax "threatens to undermine the constituional commerce interest in national air transportation," and other states would soon enact similar taxes if the law was permitted to remain in force. "A four per cent tax on airline receipts, multipled many times over, would impose a staggering burden on United and other air carriers similarly situated," the appeal said.
