News Journal, Mansfield, 0. Sunday, November 11, 1990 Obituaries A. Miller Carter GALION A. Miller Carter, 80, of 228 Ohio 309 died Saturday morning in Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus after a short illness. Born Feb.

19, 1910, in Mansfield, he was the son of the late George D. and Mary Pulver Carter. A 1928 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, he attended The Ohio State University. He founded Carter Electric Co. in 1938, which he passed on to his brothers.

He started the Carter Machine Co. in 1941, founded Hydronamics in 1958 and purchased the U.S. Steel Grave Vault Co. in 1960. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the board of both Carter Machine Co.

and Hydronamics and was actively involved in the operation of both firms. During his years in business, Mr. Carter conceived, designed and supervised the construction of all the companies' building additions and acquisitions. Under his direction, the companies made a significant contribution to the local economy for 50 years. Mr.

Carter was a member of First Congregational Church in Mansfield, Galion Elks Lodge 1191, Galion Country Club and Westbrook Country Club, Mansfield. Surviving are his wife, Florence R. Bryner Carter, whom he married Jan. 7, 1932; two sons, William Carter of Port Clinton and Thomas Carter of Galion; a daughter, Marga- Edythe E. Walker MANSFIELD A memorial service for Edythe E.

Walker, 83, formerly of 173 Western will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors by the Rev. Walter B. Orr, visitation pastor of First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Mrs. Walker died Friday evening in Crestwood Care Center, Shelby, after a long illness. Born June 5, 1907, in Erie County, she lived in Mansfield for a number of years. She was a former employee of First United Methodist Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Lois Williams of Mansfield, Sara Spreng of Medina, Mary Mayer of Toledo and 1 Barbara Walter of San Jose, a daughter-in-law, Julia Walker of Bellevue; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Riemer of Cleveland; and a brother, William Fenner of Frederick, Md. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elden E. Walker, in January 1970; two sons, Juan and William; a sister; and two brothers. Richard D. Sigars CRESTLINE Richard D.

Sigars, 55, son of Leslie and Julie Leka Sigars of Crestline, died Friday at his residence, 422 Partridge Road, after a long illness. Born Oct. 9, 1935, in Marion, he was a computer systems analyst at Newark Air Force Base. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a member of VFW, American Legion, Moose Lodge and Masonic organizations.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Donella Huffman Sigars; a son, Richard D. Sigers of Newark; a daughter, Vicki L. Sigars of Heath; two grandsons; a brother, Oliver Sigars of Chillicothe; and three sisters, Jean Stark of Mansfield, Suzanne Batory of Crestline and Sharon Beal of Tiro. Calling hours are today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

at Brucker and Kishler Funeral Home, Newark, where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. by his brother-in-law, the Rev. Silas Beal. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newark. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Licking County, 88 McMillen Drive, Newark 43055.

Charlotte Ann Ludban WILLARD Former Willard resident Charlotte Ann Ludban, 45, of 1506 Woodwind Court, Corbin, died Friday in Baptist Regional Medical Center, Corbin, after a long illness. Born Jan. 26, 1945, in Fremont, she lived most of her life Willard. Mrs. Ludan was a housewife and a member of Cumberland Parkway Church of God, Corbin.

Surviving are her husband, Leslie "Jim" Ludban; her mother, Bernice Mathews of Clyde; two daughters, Tracy Ludban of Willard and Jennifer Ludban of Corbin; a brother, Steven Mathews of Clyde; and two sisters, Carol Ray and Susan Mathews, both of Clyde. Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Secor Funeral, where services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Jack Woods.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Phoebe J. Millington MANSFIELD Phoebe J. Millington, 67, of 175 E. Third St.

died Friday at Mansfield General Hospital after a brief illness. Born Oct. 10, 1923, in Portsmouth, she lived in Mansfield the past 28 years. She was employed as a food preparer for Vending for 21 years. Surviving are a son, Cyrus W.

Millington of Mansfield; a sister, Maggie Skaggs of Canal Winchester; a grandson, Sean Millington; and two stepgrandchildren, Nicole and Amanda. Her husband, Chester Millington, died in 1970. Calling hours are today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Finefrock Funeral Home, where services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. by the Rev.

Charles Ginter. Burial will be in the Mansfield Cemetery. A. MILLER CARTER ret Cagle of Galion; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and two brothers, William L.

Carter of Mansfield and Robert H. Carter of Lexington. Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at RichardsonDavis Funeral Home, where services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. by the Rev.

Timothy Keeler. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of the First Lutheran Church of Galion or to the Leukemia Society of America. John R. Clayton Jr.

BUCYRUS John R. Clayton 69, of 1239 Farmview Ave. died Friday afternoon at Marion Community MedCenter after being ill for several months. Born Oct. 7, 1921, in Wyandot County, he was the son of the late John R.

Sr. and Golda Mitchell Clayton. He lived most of his life in Bucyrus, where he was a barber from 1963 until his retirement five years ago. Mr. Clayton was a member of Southern Heights Church of Christ.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was also a member of VFW Post 1078 and Disabled American Veterans. Surviving are his wife, Arlene Keplinger, whom he married Dec. 14, 1941; two sons, John R. Clayton III of Bucyrus and Thomas Michael Clayton of Kittery, Maine; two daughters, Vicki Blandzinski of Lima and Cheryl Smith of Cooper City, 12 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Thomas Clayton of Plant City, and Eugene Clayton of Bucyrus; and two sisters, Gloria Zahara of Bucyrus and Della June Grogg of Marysville. There will be no calling hours.

Private services will be held Monday at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home by the Rev. Jim Pierce. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to his church in care of the funeral home. Mary Elma Flickinger Steward MANSFIELD Mary Elma Steward, 65, of 380 Melody I Lane died Saturday morning in Mansfield Memorial Homes after a long illness.

Bora April 7, 1925, in Niles, she lived in Mansfield most of her life. Mrs. Steward was retired from Electric was a 45-year auxiliary member of VFW Post 9943 and was a member of American Legion McVey Post. Surviving are two sons, James Charles Steward of Mansfield and Gary Allen Steward of Sacramento, five sisters, Betty Peterson, Agnes Wisenbarger and Bernice Zehner, all of Mansfield, Rose Wallace of Sebring, and Patricia Rheinbolt of Galion; a brother, Phillip Flickinger of Pennsylvania; an uncle, Ralph Hammell of Zanesville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Hazel and Howard Joyce, and her father, Elmer Flickinger.

Calling hours at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors are today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday one hour before 1:30 p.m. services. The Rev. Valerie W.

Stultz of Main Street United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Windsor Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Columbus mayor rethinks decision COLUMBUS (AP) Mayor Dana Rinehart says he's having second thoughts about his decision against seeking re-election next year. Rinehart, a Republican, said he was thinking about running again after all.

His possible reversal prompted three potential GOP candidates to do some re-thinking themselves. Rinehart announced in July that he would not seek re-election to a third four-year term, citing political and personal reasons. Shortly after the announcement, he and his wife, Carol, separated.
