Edison council worried about water contract By Shar Hunter News Journal correspondent EDISON Edison Village Council members are concerned a delay in negotiations with Mount Gilead could leave them without a water contract Sept. 1. Edison Village Council members discussed the issue Tuesday in regular session. The village has signed a contract with the Del-Co Water Co. Inc.

of Delaware. However, it will be at least early 1997 before Del-Co is able to extend lines from Fulton to Edison. Edison currently gets its water from Mount Gilead, and its contract expires Sept. 1. In a proposed contract extension, Mount Gilead is claiming to own the water meters, wants Edison to be responsible for delinquent ac counts, wants a hydrant rental fee, and provides no clause for extension beyond June 30, 1997.

On July 24, Mount Gilead Village Council planned to meet with Edison Village Council members, but instead went into an executive session, leaving Edison Village Solicitor Don Wick and Edison Councilman Jerry Webb in the hallway. After the session, Betty Williams of the Mount Gilead Water Department said they would send Edison the contract by August 16. But Edison council members said Mount Gilead did not provide a copy of the contract extension as promised. Instead, they gave it to Wick only minutes before Tuesday's meeting.
